Horseshoe Bend Proposal
Preston reached out to me around 2 weeks before his surprise proposal to Kim. He told me they were going on a hike in Page, Arizona at Horseshoe Bend. I had never been there before so I made sure to do my research! Since it was a sunrise proposal, I made sure to stay in a hotel close to the location. They were coming up that morning from Flagstaff which was around a 2 hour drive so we made sure to keep each other updated.

I was first in line at the gates when they opened at 6 AM. It was around a $10 ticket to enter and plenty of parking. I wasn't sure what this hike had in store, but it was only around a 15-20 minute walk to the picture-perfect area everyone goes to. When I say this view was incredible, it's an understatement. It was over-cast that day which actually worked in our favor with lighting.

I set up one of my cameras to record it and then I was set in place for when they got there with my other camera. I prefer to photograph surprise proposals by going up to the couple and asking if I can test my camera settings on them for a couple's session I have later that day. They always agree and then I ask the person being proposed to if they can look the other way and brace themselves for their partner to bear hug them from behind. I'll wait a few seconds while they get down on one knee and then when everything is in place, I tell them that I actually don't like that pose and they can turn around. And that's where the magic begins!

Preston and Kim were such a joy to work with. The weather was perfect, there weren't a lot of people, and they were so smitten that their photos were so genuine and authentic!

I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I do and get some inspiration for your own couples shoot!
